Matt & I often have conversations about what it is that makes Okinawa so awesome, and despite having these conversations multiple times a week for the past 17 months we still don’t have an exact answer. I guess there is just so much awesomeness here its hard to narrow it down to just one thing.
Just one of the contributing factors is that there is always some sort of festival or event happening. I remember saying to myself that I want to attend every festival once while we are here, but there are simply so many I think this is one goal I need to let go of.
Having said that there is one particular event that I plan on attending as much as I can…the Okinawa Food Flea.
Way back in November they held the second Food Flea (unfortunately we missed the first one) and despite getting there later in the day so that lots of vendors had already sold out, it was still amazing.
Lots of different local eateries set up around the Uminchu Wharf and if your a family that like to try different foods, which ours does, this is the perfect place.
We walked around to see what was there, as soon as something caught one of our eyes we would purchase; once our hands were full we found a perch on the side of the wharf to sit and taste test all the goodies.
Unfortunately the weather was a bit sucky, and while we managed to arrive after the big rainfall there were a few light showers from time to time which saw us seeking shelter inside. Once it eased we headed back out for round 2…
This time we found a table right in front of some musicians, so we got to listen to some tunes while we stuffed our faces, and before we knew it the littles were up dancing!
The other great thing about the food flea is that it isn’t just food and live music, they also have vendors selling everything from antiques, to plants, to handmade items.
Why am I only just getting around to posting about the Food Flea now, well mostly because of laziness but I am posting it now because Vol.3 is scheduled to happen this weekend (Sunday 22nd Feb).
If you love food definitely head down to check it out, you can bet that our family will be there, although we intend to head down earlier before everything sells out.
And if your interested in staying in the loop about future Food Fleas I recommend ‘liking’ the Okinawa Food Flea Facebook page where they post upcoming events.
