Lunar New Year in Itoman

Itoman Lunar New Year (3 of 4)

The Lunar New Year isn’t really a big thing here in Okinawa but Itoman, a fishing village, does celebrate it by hanging colorful good-catch flags over the fishing boats in the hopes of a good catch.

I had wanted to drive down South last year to see the boats all decorated but you know it never happened, but I am so pleased we managed to get there this year, even if it was a few days after the Chinese New Year.

Not really anything I would make a special trip for but if you happen to be in the area for the Lunar New Year I would definitely swing by to see them!

  1. You should go see the squid drying during the season. I have some photos of it on my blog. I think you’d really love getting some photos of it.

Question – What were your settings for the majority of the boat photos? I’m wondering because my sky always seems to be “blown out” when I try to capture the awesome Oki clouds.

    • Oh where is the squid drying? Is it one of the little islands you drive too? Ill have to read your blog! Im going to PM you re camera stuff!
