After returning from our U.S adventure we had just 5 nights to get over jet lag before heading away for a long weekend, although thankfully no planes were involved this time!
Instead we headed up North to the little military ‘resort’ Okuma, with friends.

Clio loves to collect things in her green bucket (we currently have a bucket full of seaweed in the bathroom)
Unfortunately the weather forecast for the entire weekend was rain & thunderstorms and for once my weather app was completely spot on; but we didn’t let the weather rain on our parade.
After checking out the gorgeous Hydrangea garden (there is still time to view these if you haven’t yet!) Matt, the girls & I in my overloaded Coo arrived to Okuma late afternoon, but with only a few scattered showers and plenty of daylight left we hit up the beach straight away.
Eden was straight in the water while Clio was more interested in collecting things in her bucket; she did make it down to the water but quickly returned to her bucket & sand when the tiny waves crashed over her tiny feet.
Matt & I kept asking if the girls were hungry, because we were ravenous, but they were pretty content with being at the beach. Eventually we managed to convince them it was time to eat but convincing Clio that she was clean enough was a whole other story.
Clio just LOVED the tap outside our unit and could have stayed here for hours playing in the water.
After a quick dinner at the restaurant on site we started the walk back to our unit. Of course it decided at this point to completely downpour! Eden & I ran back for the car, not wanting to deal with carseats I let Eden sit in the front seat which she thought was amazing…until Matt & Clio climbed in the front seat also!
The next morning we started our day off with breakfast overlooking the water, unfortunately this sounded so much more fun than it was…it was so windy that hair was going everywhere along with our bowls of cereal!
After some more beach play, we packed up our unit as we were moving to cabins for the next two nights and then of course the rain started.
With time to kill before we were able to check into our cabin we visited an awesome toy museum (more on this another day!)
After lunch the rain eased so we did the small hike on Okuma to take in the beautiful views and then it was time to check-in. As we were checking in our friends arrived; the girls were beyond thrilled to be reunited with their besties, even though it had only been 24 hours since they last saw them!

no one seemed to mind that they had no swimsuits on, Clio trying to show Matt (not her dad Matt) a rock…she has a bit of a crush on him!
After making ourselves at home in the cabins we headed to the beach (on the other side of the peninsula than the earlier beaches) and fully clothed the girls splashed about.
The evening was filled with food, camp fires, laughter, s’mores and eventually rain; which was about the time we called it a night.
We woke to more rain, so naturally we filled water balloons and had a little water fight, while Clio was happy to play with the little hose & tap; which is pretty much where you could find her all weekend when we were at the cabin.
After lunch we took a drive to Cape Hedo to get out of the rain for a bit before returning home to have some more water play and repeat the previous nights festivities.
When waking on the third morning to some light rain I think we were all pleased to be heading home, not before a stop off at Bise Village for a stroll and snorkel before finishing up with lunch at yummy Pizza in the Sky!
I don’t think it was the long weekend we had hoped for thanks to the rain, regardless it was fun to get away and hang out with friends and despite the rain we made the most of it!
Check out Matt’s wee video of our weekend!
Another great read of your adventures. Those babies are sure growing up fast. You’ll be a granny before you know it. A great little family and clearly having a lot of fun. Take care Hannah. Love Dan & Jan
they are growing way to fast Dan! Hoping to head to NZ next summer (NZ winter) not sure what our plans are yet but hopefully will be back for a decent length of time, would be so neat if we could make it up your way…will keep you posted 🙂
I love Okuma. Those cabins though? Hate them. I have never slept so bad in my life. The kids loved it! They thought it was the best thing ever, the adults, not so much.
this was our first time staying in the cabins…ours was leaking, although I didn’t discover this until the second evening when I realized our pillows were all wet! $30 though, can’t beat it!
Thanks. Great fun.
🙂
Oh my gosh what a fun video and end to a long trip! You make Okinawa look amazing Hannah!
thanks 🙂 Okinawa is pretty amazing!
I’m just now catching up on your blog…all the stuff I’ve missed!! Love this! Tell Matt, Great song selection for his GoPro and I love that you included it on your post. Keep doing that…It’s nice to see you sometimes here too!!
It was my idea on the song hehe! I’m sure he will, he is just starting to learn how to use it more which is fun! I hope for some footage from our SE Asia trip!
Bahaha! I was showing Adam all our pics from taipei by just using the quick Apple slideshow feature and I plugged that song in! Great minds think alike!
