Can you believe its been over a year since we visited Ikei Island! We loved it the first time we went so not really sure why it has taken this long to get back, I guess when you live on an island full of gorgeous beaches and various nooks and crannies to explore its not all that surprising, sad but true.
This time instead of heading to the beach we went to last time we tried out Oodomari Beach (also called Mamasan Beach) with some friends who had been before and raved about the snorkeling.
The first thing I noticed was the little beach houses up on the cliff, throughout the day they constantly caught me eye. When we left we drove around them and decided that they were holiday homes but actually we have no clue!
I was surprised at how big the waves were and that it got relatively deep pretty quickly which is a little nerve wrecking with kids…they didn’t same to mind one bit though.
Matt has taken a liking to snorkeling so he really enjoyed this beach because apparently there were ample fish to see and while I never went, I think I am a little apprehensive from that time a fish bit my foot, I could tell that were loads of fish because there were schools of them swimming near the shoreline where we were!
The downside of this beach is the cost…500 Yen an adult and 300 Yen a child! It is a gorgeous beach and like I said the snorkeling is great but its hard to pay 1,600 Yen for a trip to the beach when there are so many other nice beaches around where you dont have to pay.
When it was time to go we went on the hunt for the funky ‘house’ we found last year which we found and it hadn’t changed one bit! What we weren’t expecting to find was a similar house a couple streets back with the same funky siding.
I know we wont leave it so long to visit Ikei again as there are a couple of eating spots I want to try and apparently more beaches!
